Well, readers (and those who are having this read to them,) since the ho!d has grown so damned big I think it's about time i reintroduced myself. There are many of you whom I've never even spoken to, and for this i am mildly ashamed. After all, i am the nominal editor here, albeit mostly in absentia. So, I'll take the first step.
"Hello!" dAev says (net says "hi".) There. Now that that's out of the way, i'll get on with whatever it is i am going to discuss, as soon as i remember it. Ah, that's right. I was going to expound the evils of apathy until i realized that nobody really gives a damn about it. What i will give you, then, is an extended history of this magnificent magazine, if only because so very few of you were around when it started.
In the beginning, there was Dolomite, Ron and Ann (they come as a boxed set,) and myself as far as those who are still around from the very first issue. The old brainpan is foggy that far back, so if i forgot someone, you can give me hell on the messageboard. Goo came not too long later, as did trellis and PURDYzKAT and Sara the Punk. Next columnist was Joshman, i believe, who regaled us with tales of his ineptitude at adolescence, then my old band and smoking buddy Jaremy did a one-time Q&A bit that was extremely surreal (i believe it involved shaven wombats) and from there it just a-grew and grew. Our beloved Cait came around about then as a poet and reader, and she started submitting so much that I was almost forced to give her a column, lest i find myself buried in mountains of her electrons. I've never regretted that. Her Smell ME's were. . .inspiring. . . from the very start and when this mag got to be too much for one dAev to handle, she took over and made it into what you see today.
i sit here now at 10 AM on a Wednesday with coffee and cigarettes, with Amber, the love of my life and the reason i get up in the morning and Sam, my good friend who was gracious enough to let me move in with him, and i almost bust with pride. They are both sleeping, but all of you are wide awake and mauling the collective with your dedication and talent. Remember, as someone once said who i never knew and whose name i don't remember, "All that is needed for evil to prosper is for good men to do nothing."
